Free Space, as an open concept, also the theme of the 2018 Venice Biennale, embodies contemporary tolerance and definition of different values in architecture, including those of ideological, historical, temporal, and imaginary spaces. And by deciphering these conceptual intersections, designers can shape a location that is independent of the traditional domain, and allow people to connect with others, and space to connect with other spaces, a bridging linkage in itself. Beyond the visible form, Free Space is also epitome of the freedom of imagination, and the combined memories of the past, present and future, as well as a dialogue between natural resources and human materials which embody natural elements such as sunlight, air, water, etc. as it is experienced in the space, and the architectural space is given other meanings in addition to its original program. The concept of Free Space, the value of architectural diversity, continues to be a re-construction of the ideal living space of humankind.
展會新定義－從方盒子到開放場域的思考 New Definition of Exhibitions – Discourse From Square Boxes to Open Domain
In view of the contemporary trend, a large number of exhibition activities have become an important part of today's world trade eco-system, where the traditional exhibitions focus on product sales aimed at achieving the highest profit per floor area in a limited display space. The objective of the exhibition space has long been a pedantic box, with limited imagination of the brand itself and the product design. So, for this exhibition, we especially designed the main theme as “Free Space". By opening up the space in the field, we strengthened the key role of OEZER doors and windows as a professional brand of building materials, by doing away with the conventional exhibition space usage but putting emphasis on marketing-oriented thinking, in the hope of creating an experimental open domain that allows participants to communicate, interact and experience through the presentation of brand characteristics, and through workshops, design forums, and community dialogues.
遊逛路徑－以錯落地景創造的展會空間新體驗 Roaming Path – New Experiences of Exhibition space with Interwoven Landscapes
The rectangular plan of the exhibition area adopts an open-plan design, through a large number of staircases and platforms to create urban landscapes of height variations, on the one hand, it addresses to the fact that 2018 OEZER doors and windows were invited to participate in the inaugural Venice Biennale, with particular reference in the local humanistic landscape, of which the spatial structure were translated and transpired in the layout of the exhibition space. Furthermore, through these ups and downs, along the museum-like circulation paths with enriched spatial perception, and through allowing people to flow naturally through open domain, it blurred the clear boundary between the public domain and the circulation path. In addition to the existing product display, the exhibition area also includes a space model and a demonstration of future experimental space, including a coffee shop and a glass sun room imbued in the circulation path, allowing visitors to have more experience when they roam, which also echoes with the original spirit of Free Space.
